Pride month is starting today, and my town of Utrecht kicked it off with Canal Pride.
I’m queer. My kids (12, 14, 16) may be queer. They may not be. But they are supportive. Curious. They try to use the right pronouns for all our diverse friends. They don’t judge for looks, age, gender, relationship preference (mono/poly/otherwise/straight/gay). They never flinched when I had a female partner and then again a cis straight man.
Their norm for judgement?
Kindness.
Be kind to them and they’ll love you.
This is what my Little Pirate drew as she was watching the boats. And then waves with her notebook to all the Drag Queens, leather gays, and everyone else. With a huge smile.
My queer mum heart sings.
